How to be application-ready before a funding window opens

Windows can close early once funds are committed. The operators who win have site details, quotes and plans ready to apply the day it opens.

Grant schemes run in windows, and those windows can close early once the money is committed. So the operators who succeed aren’t necessarily the keenest — they’re the ones who are ready the moment a window opens.

Why readiness pays

An application that’s assembled in a rush after a window opens risks missing out if funds run low. One that’s prepared in advance can go in promptly, at the front of the queue. Preparation is worth real money precisely because the funding is finite and time-limited.

Gather your details early

Get the essentials together ahead of time: your site and supply details (including your MPAN and existing capacity from your electricity bill), your organisation’s eligibility evidence, and a clear picture of the charging works you’re funding. None of this depends on the window being open, so there’s no reason to wait.

Get quotes and plans in place

Obtain quotes for the chargepoints and civil works, sketch your charger plan, and confirm your eligibility against the current criteria. Having costed, credible plans ready turns the application itself into a form-filling exercise rather than a scramble.

Watch the dates

Keep an eye on the Funding tracker for when the next window is expected, and use the Grant Eligibility Checker to confirm you qualify before you invest the effort. For larger or public-sector applications, an adviser can help package everything — but much of the groundwork is straightforward and worth starting now, whatever the exact dates turn out to be.
