Every UK grant that helps electrify a depot (2026 map)

A single map of the funding that helps: the Depot Charging Scheme, vehicle grants, ZEBRA for buses, and freight innovation programmes.

Funding for depot electrification isn’t one grant — it’s a small map of schemes, each covering a different part of the cost. Here’s the 2026 lay of the land. For live status and dates, the Funding tracker is kept current.

Depot Charging Scheme — chargers and civils

The headline route for depots: a £170m programme (2026–2030) in timed windows, covering a share of chargepoint and civil-works costs — 70% up to £1m per organisation in the first window. It does not fund grid works or vehicles.

Vehicle grants — trucks and vans

The vehicles are a separate cost with their own support. Grants toward electric vans and trucks reduce the purchase price that sits outside the depot scheme, and stack alongside it rather than overlapping. Terms change, so check what’s live when you buy.

ZEBRA — buses and coaches

Bus operators and transport authorities have a dedicated door in the Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) scheme, supporting zero-emission buses and their depot infrastructure. For bus fleets this is usually the primary route.

Freight innovation — the frontier

At the heavy end, government and innovation funding has backed electric HGV demonstrators and the first megawatt charging hubs — more about pioneering the hardest cases than routine grants, but worth watching for large freight operators.

The gaps

Two costs fall outside almost all of this: grid reinforcement and much of the vehicle spend beyond specific vehicle grants. Plan to fund those yourself. Check the Grant Eligibility Checker for a first read on what applies to you.
